Test Parameters of ASTM B117-07

ASTM B117-07 provides a controlled corrosive environment which has been utilized to produce relative corrosion resistance information for specimens of metals and coated metals exposed in a given test chamber. The test parameters are listed below:

Temperature in test chamber
35 oC (+1.1 oC / -1.7 oC)

Relative Humidity in test chamber
95 – 98%

Salt solution (which produces salt spray)
Sodium Chloride * (5%) + Water** (95%)

* sodium chloride with

- total impurities of not more than 0.3% by mass,

- halides (bromide, fluoride & iodide) excluding chloride of not more than 0.1% by           mass,

- copper content of less than 0.3 ppm

- no anti-caking agents (0.0%)

** water conforming to Type IV water in ASTM D1193
